The companies aren't happy if you come close. If you go here You'll get very close and might be able to chat with some of them. You'll need an interpreter of you don't speak Vietnamese. Edited 5 years ago Level Contributor 53 posts 7. Re Hon Khoi Salt Field 5 years ago The companies aren't happy if you come close. Yes right . They do business, you come to see their business without money. What happens ? money can solve all problem but you should find a right person who can help you to be close to the employees there. Not many people know. On the way to Doc Let Beach people can take photos of salt fields free but certainly no salt. Rarely can you see salt there. If you have an interpreter who asks the security guards for persmission and then give the security guards some money, they will be very happy to allow you to come in the company on the left on the way to Doc Let Beach to take photos of salt fields. If more money, employees will play a role collecting salt so that you can take photos like the so called sunrise photograph tours . Imagine very very nice photos of employees collecting salt by rakes and carrying 2 baskets full of salt on their shoulders wading in salty water and then making loads of salt at sunrise. On 10th December , you can see that scene in that area if you pay the security guards well. Everything should be well prepared and it requires a good cooperation with the chief of the employees. You need the cellphone number of the chief of the employees there. A wholeheartedly recommended guide about this has the cellphone number. Any other people know ? You leave Nha Trang at 4 am. You reach there at 5 am for sunrise. Know that all employees there work at fixed time not anytime. Can anyone can give a good advice to tourists ? No, No, No salt but in fact YES . Level Contributor 3,509 posts 7 reviews 2 helpful votes 8. Re Hon Khoi Salt Field 5 years ago In my experience the best photos in that area are late afternoon photos unless you're at the very tip of the peninsula. The fields closest to Nha Trang are about 30 km away the more interesting once about 50 and then again 70 km. Plan to be on location half an hour before. Shooting salt pictures in the middle of the day makes for uninteresting pictures because of the sun. Most of my pictures in the area were shot at about 6 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon when the shadows are long. As you'll find out B&W photos probably make the nicest images. If you're serious about it go scout the day before so you'll know where to go. Edited 5 years ago Level Contributor 53 posts 9. Re Hon Khoi Salt Field 5 years ago There 's another salt field on the way to the airport . After passing by Mia Resort, you will find a roundabout, turn right to the national high way and then turn left. Drive further, you will find a salt field on the left. The employees here are more friendly but if you don't contact them in advance, rarely can you see them at work. Level Contributor 2 posts 4 reviews 7 helpful votes 10. Re Hon Khoi Salt Field 5 years ago My daughter and I just returned from Nha Trang two days ago. We booked our private tour to Hon Khoi salt mine through etripster with an amazingly cheap price of USD54 per pax as compared to other tour agents which quoted us USD115 per pax covering similar itinerary which included a Vietnamese lunch which was good. We were pleasantly surprised that the local agent picked us up with a luxurious 7 seated mpv albeit it was just two of us. It came with a driver and an English speaking guide. We were picked up at 6am original pick up time was supposed to be 7am as to reduce exposure to the scorching hot sun. The journey was abt an hour ride. Along the journey, they stopped briefly for us to take some photos of fishermen rowing their basket boats. When we arrived the salt mine, the guide led us into the various plots where workers were doing their respective chores and we had ample opportunity to take photos. After the visit, they took us for a brief stopover at Doc Let beach before heading back to the city. As we arrived back to the city ahead of schedule and was too early for lunch restaurant only open at 1030 am while we were back at 930am, the guide was so kind to bring us to two other places of interests which were not part of the original iti ie Po Nagar Cham Temple and Hon Chong Promontory Rocks. Totally no regrets and highly recommend to sign up with etripster. Note that salt mining is only done during summer months from March till July.
